I'll Take Liberty, Thank You - Part II

Midas at Haduken posted this week about the anniversary of Patrick Henry's Liberty or Death Speech, which took place on Church Hill 232 years ago yesterday.

For a real treat and spine chilling re-enactment, get to St. John's Church Sunday as they will host a special commemoration of the Virginia Convention of 1775 at 2pm. It is absolutely one of Richmond's coolest experiences that is so much more than just the famous line we all know from history class.

I reviewed it in May two years ago and you can read about it here.

Patrick Henry's speech is so much more memorable than the last line, and seen in this context it is a hundred times more powerful than reading it out of a book. And the fact that it takes place in the same church where it happened 230 years ago just enhances the experience.

With the Irish Festival in full swing, I would recommend getting there by 12:45 as they will hand out (free) tickets starting at 1pm. Count on it selling out.

If you miss it, they will host regular Sunday re-enactments from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
