The National (Squared)
It wasn’t too long ago that so many of the cool bands passed Richmond by because of a lack of venues. Now, we have cool bands coming to play River City because of the venues.
The case in point is Sunday’s show of The National at The National. The National had been touring with REM and only played three other dates solo before they head off to Europe for the rest of the summer.
Turns out, they chose Richmond as one of those three dates because they wanted to play the theater called The National that wasn’t really named after them, but the irony of the wordplay was just too much. And who really cares why they came, just the fact that they did come to Richmond is good enough for me.
Which leads me to the show itself.
